Forest Avenue Renaissance: Restoring History and Revitalizing 501-533

The revitalization of 501-533 ForestAvenue in Portland is a project that seamlessly merges historical preservationwith contemporary functionality. This site, once home to a car dealer and carrepair facility, originally constructed in 1928, has experienced numeroustransformations and tenants over the years. It has witnessed the evolution ofthe automotive industry and the surrounding neighborhood.

A significant transformation took placein 1963 when 509 Forest Avenue received a facelift, adding a large precaststructure with narrow slot windows to the front of the building. Now, thevision for this project is to embrace the building's historical roots and honorits original design. The precast structure is to be removed, allowing thefacade to return to its historic essence. This not only rejuvenates thebuilding's aesthetic but also pays homage to its rich history.

The project takes a step further byrepurposing the second and third floors, converting office spaces into 38contemporary apartments. These apartments will range from studio units toone-bedroom and two-bedroom units. The addition of a shared roof deck elevatesthe living experience, offering residents a communal space to enjoy the opensky and views of the surrounding neighborhood.

The restoration of 501-533 Forest Avenueembodies a commitment to preserving historical architecture while adapting itto meet the needs of the modern era. It stands as a symbol of architectural andhistorical preservation, seamlessly blending the past and present for thebenefit of the community and its residents.
